Black Labrador Puppy Training

Black Labrador puppy training begins with understanding your puppy’s breed.  Labradors are wonderful dogs for family pets, and they are good working dogs, too.  Labradors are generally stable, intelligent and easily trained.  That’s not true of all Labradors, however.  Some are neurotic and nervous, and if they do not get enough exercise or attention, they tend to be rowdy and rambunctious.

Black Labrador puppy training begins by making your new puppy feel secure.  He needs a safe place where he won’t get in trouble for peeing or making a mess.  He needs his food and water dish in the same place, and needs to be fed at the same time every day.  He needs a routine that he can settle into and feel secure with.

Black Labrador puppy training has to include socialization.  A poorly socialized Labrador can become neurotic or aggressive with people and other dogs.  He must learn what behavior is expected of him when he is around other dogs and people.

When you are involved in Black Labrador puppy training, you need to establish dominance.  He will have better manners when you are in control, and he will feel safer.  Dogs are pack animals and instinctively fit themselves into the hierarchy of their pack; you and your family are your new puppy’s pack.  If you do not establish your dominance, the puppy feels that he must be the pack leader, and he will become a rude, undisciplined dog.  This is very stressful for the puppy, and he will be happier and more secure if you are the pack leader.

When the dog is 4-8 months old, Black Labrador puppy training will begin to take a turn.  He will begin to learn his role and the characteristics he needs for that role will begin to be developed and reinforced.  If he will be a family pet, Black Labrador puppy training will include obedience training. 

A lot of Black Labradors are working dogs.  They work as police and protection dogs, guide dogs, service dogs, hunting dogs and in other roles.  Their intelligence, desire to please their handler and willingness to work make them the ideal dog for a number of jobs.  Black Labrador puppy training will depend on what job the puppy will do.
