What Kind of Dog Agility Equipment Do You Need?

If you are planning to build your own dog agility course, you’ll need to decide what kind of dog agility equipment you need.   You’ll probably want to start with the basics and add extra pieces as time goes by.  Dog agility equipment is expensive, so you may not want to get it all at once.

You can save money by building some of your own dog agility equipment.  For instance, it isn’t too hard to construct a pause table or a seesaw.  You can get kits for some pieces of dog agility equipment, and you can find patterns or instructions to build things like jumps and weave poles.

The basic dog agility equipment that you will need to get started with is:
? A seesaw or teeter board, which you can probably make yourself
? A tunnel
? Some jumps, which you may be able to make
? A tire jump
? A set of weave poles
? A pause table

If you plan to compete in dog agility trials, make sure your dog agility equipment meets the specifications for your dog’s size. 

You can find dog agility equipment at some pet stores, and you can order it from quite a few places.  You might be able to find used dog agility equipment by checking your local want ads or an online auction site. 

If you make your own dog agility equipment, or if you get used equipment, make sure it is sturdy and safe for your dog to use.  Dog agility equipment that is in poor condition should be replaced and discarded.

Once you have the first piece or two of dog agility equipment, you can begin to have fun with your dog.  You don’t have to wait until you have all the equipment, or until your obstacle course is done.  After all, the point of getting dog agility equipment is to have fun with your dog, right?
